Árvácska 1976

This drama, set in Hungary in the 1930s, describes the story of the seven-year-old orphan Csöre (Zsuzsa Czinkóczi). The girl lives with a farming family and essentially has to take care of the animals. The only friend Csöre has with him is a cow. She is severely punished for every mistake she makes - on top of that, another farmer abuses her too.
In order to exclude them, Csöre has to run around naked, is not allowed to play with the biological children of the farmer's family and is also not allowed to attend school. The fact that she has to walk around naked doesn't bother her. She can escape this hell and ends up in an orphanage, where she is quickly adopted by a family again. First joy is dampened, because it comes from bad to worse, because here, too, she has to work hard. In addition, the new stepmother is mentally ill, only the "step" grandfather is her confidant, but he dies - and the following events end in catastrophe.

Background:
At the time this film is set, the Hungarian government was paying families big bucks to take in "undesirable" children. Checks and controls of the families did not take place. Of course, it often happened that these children ended up as cheap labor with farmers, with whom you could do whatever you wanted.
The film is based on a novella by Zsigmond Móricz (1879-1942).
By chance, Zsigmond Móricz was able to stop a 10-year-old girl from jumping to her death from the Liberty Bridge (Budapest). The writer rescued her, took her in and adopted her. The girl told a lot about her cruel life so far, which inspired Móricz to write his novella.

Árvácska means pansies, but it also means something like "no man's flower" - the pansy is better known under this term in Hungary ... and more appropriate for this film. In the USA this film was released under the name »Nobody's Daughter«.
In 1980 this film was released in East German cinemas.

It's the moments and scenes in which Csöre runs around the fields naked and carefree that's why we included this film in the »Films with nudist scenes« category. From the point of view of the plot, however, one must not forget that the little girl is only naked because her "owners" refuse to wear clothes for the working day.
